Eligibility sectoral restrictions

Grant for Business Investment (GBI)

Sectoral restrictions, local market & over capacity checklist

The European Commission restricts aid to certain sectors such as agriculture, coal, fisheries, iron and steel, synthetic fibres and vehicles.

Restrictions may also apply where projects are in sectors of the UK market which are already fully served and where support would simply displace or reduce existing jobs in similar businesses elsewhere. Therefore, it is very important that your project involves maximising potential opportunities in niche, fast growing or export markets.

The following table provides an indication only of sectors affected by EC restrictions and issues such as local market and over capacity.
